Water Safety Instructor Course

Must attend all classes including FIT class

FIT: Friday, Sept 17, 2010 from 5:30 - 9:00 p.m.

WSI Days of the Week: Saturday/Sunday Sept. 18 & 19, 2010 from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Ages: 16 and up on or before final scheduled lesson of this courseRequirements: Successfully complete FIT; be able to demonstrate the ability to perform the following swimming skills: (front crawl, 25 yards); (back crawl, 25 yards); (breast stroke, 25 yards); (backstroke, 25 yards); (side stroke, 25 yards); (butterfly, 15 yards); maintain position on back for one minute in deep water; and tread water for one minute.

Lifeguard Certification Class

The lifeguard training course prepares individuals to assume the duties and responsibilities of lifeguards at the swimming pools and non-surf open swim water beaches and waterparks. This course provides the knowledge and skills designed to save the life of another person in the event of an emergency. The training course is approximately 30 hours. The lifeguard class will be taught at Rob Leake City Pool.

Prerequisites are passing the pre-course test which involves swimming 300 yards continuously, treading water for one minute (without using hands) and a 20 yard swim, surface dive, retrieve diving brick (approx. 10 lbs.) and swim back 20 yards within 80 seconds.

Class 1: March 18 - 21, 2010, Class 2: April 1 - 4, 2010, Class 3: April 29 - May 2, 2010, Class 4: May 6 - 9, 2010 and Class 5: Dec. 16 - 19, 2010. (Thurs & Fri 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. and Saturday & Sunday 8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.) *NOTE: Sunday hours depends..........
